I love my game studio
Sweet Review
Clint Hocking (Splintercell) has been counting down his favorite GDC talks. He picked mine on avatars and a talk by Randy Smith (Thief) on save games as his favorites. Given the clarity of Clint’s thinking and his passion for the more interesting aspects of gameplay, this is flooring.
UT Video Games Archive
UT hosted a gathering for the upcoming Video Games Archive. Lots of fun, hanging out with people I used to work with, 6, 10, 14 years ago.
These might be the worst pictures I’ve ever taken. Shown here are Richard Garriot, Warren Spector and Rich Vogel.
We drank too much and had a great time. UT is collecting up video game materials for the archive. At the event, people brought stuff like design docs from 15 years ago (that became games like Wing Commander), marketing materials and music from very old games. Lord British brough a roll of yellowing teletype paper from his first game, pre Akalabeth.
Blacksite
Some press is starting to appear for our new game, Blacksite. It’s a first-person shooter we’re making here at the Midway-studio Austin.
Tomorrow I get to fly to Vegas to show off the game for the first time. At the same event, our sister studio in Chicago will be showing off Stranglehold, which looks great too.
This is a screenshot from Blacksite.
